The Momentum Book

In an industry often seen as traditional and slow to change, there is a quiet but powerful revolution happening. "Momentum: Makers and Builders" is more than just a title—it is a testament to the wave of innovation led by extraordinary women and diverse leaders in insurance technology. Our goal is to kick off this book series with the various and diverse makers and builders in the Insurtech space. We want to celebrate those who dare to redefine the status quo, the visionaries who are building, creating, and making a difference in ways that were once unimaginable.

As Steve Jobs once said hared: “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently—they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward.”

As a community of female founders, innovators, and disruptors, we are not just participating in this space—we are transforming it. We are addressing gaps, breaking barriers, creating ripples, and bringing fresh perspectives to the table. Mother Teresa once had shared this in one of her speeches that, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” 

 With “Momentum: – Makers & Builders,”, we want to share stories within these pages to highlight the resilience, creativity, and relentless drive that define us. The sleepless nights, bold pivots, and moments of breakthrough are all part of how we, as innovators, are shaping the landscape of insurance technology.  

These women are more than builders; they are the architects of a new era. They are the makers who see beyond the challenges to what’s possible, who turn ideas into solutions, and who navigate the complexities of a historically male-dominated industry with grace, grit, and determination.

Both of us are female founders in the Insurtech space, and we remember distinctly when we first met in 2018. It was at a pitch event in September 2018 at in Hartford, CT. Back then, pitch events The pitch events back then often felt daunting and isolating for women, especially in an industry dominated by male voices. We were the rare few——— female founders among a sea of faces that barely reflected our own experiences or aspirations. As we took our turns pitching our ideas and innovations, there was an unspoken understanding of the challenges we had each faced to get to that point.

The moment we saw each other across the pitch floor, there was an it was an instantaneous connection—a powerful, almost electrifying feeling of recognition. For the first time, neither of us felt alone we were not alone. We saw in each other someone who understood the uphill battles, the late nights, the second-guessing, and the relentless drive to create something meaningful. It was more than just finding a peer; it was like finding a co-conspirator in a shared mission. We exchanged knowing glances, nods of encouragement, and, most importantly, the unspoken message that said, “I see you, and I am rooting for you.”

This encounter became a pivotal moment, sparking not only just a friendship but a deeper sense of confidence and solidarity. It was a reminder that even in spaces where we are few, we are not alone. We can advocate for each other, amplify each other’s voices, and champion each other’s successes. We realized that our presence mattered—not just for ourselves, but for all the women watching from the sidelines, wondering if there was a place for them, too. That moment on the pitch floor was a powerful testament to the impact of representation; it showed us that when one woman rises, she creates a path for others to follow.

This connection was not simply just about sharing the same space—; it was about sharing the same determination to carve out a place for ourselves and others in an industry that needs our perspectives, our resilience, and our unique voices.

This newfound bond It solidified our commitment to support one another and to keep pushing forward, knowing that each of our individual successes would be a victory for all.

Our goal with this book is to honor and pay tribute to every woman who has dared to start something new, who has faced the many “no’s” with an unwavering belief in her vision, and who has built momentum not just for herself, but for all of us. It is a reminder that we are not alone on this journey. We are part of a movement that is bigger than any one company or founder—it is a collective force that is driving the industry forward.

We hope that these stories inspire you to continue building with purpose, to keep making your mark, and to always remember that the momentum we create today sets the stage for the future we envision. Together, we are shaping a more inclusive, innovative, and impactful insurance industry. 

As Toni Morrison once said reminds us, “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” This book, this movement, is that story—a story of courage, community, and the unstoppable force of female leadership.
